In honor of the former name of our province, Cuenca. In the past, it was an international benchmark for the quality of its textiles. So much so that the entire region benefited from its climate and geography, conducive to the production of high-quality wool, and the city itself became the epicenter of textile manufacturing, with the establishment of laundering facilities, fulling mills, and dye works.

The 15th and 16th centuries were the golden age of the textile industry in Cuenca. During this period,Cuenca experienced a boom in the production and export of wool and textiles supplying Castilian fairs and manufacturing centers in Italy. This economic boom led to significant population growth in the city.

The creation of the Carpet and Tapestry Factory in 1780 boosted the local economy, employing more than 1800 people and producing quality carpets and tapestries that gained international recognition. However, the decline was inevitable and culminated in 1954 with the factory fire, marking the end of an era.
