The wool carder was a worker in livestock-raising areas with wool production, who washed the fleeces with water to remove dirt and grease, and then untangled or carded them to prepare them for spinning and textile use. These workers, also called wool combing and carding laborers, used traditional tools such as carding combs and combs for this activity.
