Origin & Habitat

Its origin leads us to an ancient crossbreeding between the sheep that inhabited the central Pyrenees and specimens of the Merino breed that arrived through transhumance. Its name refers to its original location in the Ripollés region. It has an essential role in the maintenance of the rural environment in systems of the use of extensive pastures. In the old days they were used to transhumance to valleys (in the winter) and the mountains (in the summer). Some flocks still preserve today. It is currently classified as an endangered native breed.
