Origin & Habitat
Its North African origin, result of an intense trade between Mallorca and some towns of the south of the Mediterranean, let this type of sheep adapt well to the dry weather of the south of the island, which was very similar to the area where they came from and less suitable for the rest of the breeds from the island. Its extensive handling with flocks of 10-300 sheep rotate through the farm and surrounding pastures. These animals not only favor the maintenance of the clean island undergrowth, but also fertilize it. It is currently classified as an endangered native breed.
Wool
These sheep offer entrefina wool between 24-28 microns with an orange-coloured and red-based. Its fleece is laid out only on the trunk, leaving the head, the limbs and the belly hairless.
