ANIMAL WELFARE

The sheep of Wooldreamers graze freely throughout Spain, ranging from the vast Extremadura meadows to the Cuenca mountain range, or the plains of the Castilian plateau, all the way to the mountains of the Picos de Europa and the Pyrenees.

The collaborating flocks that produce the wool for our products are treated with care and compassion. They are well-fed, lead a natural and healthy life, and are not subjected to practices like mulesing. Our ongoing dedication to the well-being of the sheep enables us to obtain fibers of the highest quality and performance from each of the sheep breeds.

At Wooldreamers, we strive to ensure this and we demand that our collaborators provide their sheep with the 5 freedoms of animal care:

FREE TO EXHIBIT NATURAL BEHAVIOR

We work with flocks under extensive grazing systems, providing sheep with open land to graze and live freely. Although they have plenty of hectares to graze, they prefer to stay together, which is why the role of the shepherd is necessary to guide them to new pastures.

FREE FROM PHYSICAL AND THERMAL DISCOMFORT

Sheep have adapted to different temperature environments over the centuries, depending on their habitat. However, as they have been domesticated, they also rely on human assistance. Our collaborators must ensure that adequate shade and shelter are available to them at all times.

FREE FROM HUNGER, THIRST, AND MALNUTRITION

Our sheep live in a way that allows them to feed and hydrate when they need to. Well-nourished sheep are better equipped to handle the stress of extreme weather conditions, such as drought and winter cold.

FREE FROM STRESS, FEAR, AND DISTRESS.

No one loves sheep more than someone passionate about their craft and with several generations of experience. Our shepherds are the first admirers of their animals, and no one knows better than them how to handle their sheep to avoid any unnecessary stress and pain. With this in mind, mulesing is completely prohibited in Spain, and we guarantee 100% that our products are completely free from this practice.

FREE FROM PAIN, INJURY, AND DISEASE

Our collaborating flocks work daily with veterinary experts to ensure the care and well-being of their animals, conducting thorough monitoring to prevent deseases and diagnose animal health issues.

WE TAKE CARE OF NATIVE BREEDS

Currently, we work with flocks and projects that highlight the wool of 22 native breeds in our country (several of them endangered), and we strive to assist the existing 45 breeds.
