In honor of the ancient name of our province, Cuenca. In the past, it was an international reference for the quality of its textiles. The entire region benefited from its climate and geography, which were ideal for producing high-quality wool. The city itself became the epicenter of textile manufacturing, with the establishment of washing facilities, fulling mills, and dye works.
The 15th and 16th centuries were the golden age of Cuenca’s textile industry. During this period, Cuenca experienced a boom in the production and export of wool and textiles, supplying Castilian fairs and manufacturing centers in Italy. This economic flourishing led to significant population growth in the city.
The creation of the Carpet and Tapestry Factory in 1780 boosted the local economy, employing more than 1800 people and producing high-quality carpets and tapestries that gained international recognition. However, decline was inevitable, culminating in 1954 with the factory’s fire, marking the end of an era.
This high-quality yarn has been specially designed for creating carpets and tapestries using high/low warp looms or the tufting system. We did not want to miss the opportunity to pay homage to this historical past of the city of Cuenca and its great textile tradition.
